The Importance of
Political Parties’ Platforms
It would be very helpful for the political and civic formation of the sectors of society that do not have this knowledge, that in these days of electoral campaigning the party leaders and others who not being party leaders still know about political ideology, make it known to the public so that some might now learn about it for the first time and others might broaden their knowledge. For example, here in the United States of America there are two big historic parties, Republican and Democratic, that have their own programmatic points of view, which could be considered as ideological, and both of them, fundamentally, covered by the ideal of representative democracy.
Each party has its own program covering certain aspects of a social, political, and also cultural nature. It would be good that those who are qualified to do so set out to inform about their platforms in a broad and ongoing way during these months prior to the general election. And they should not only make it known, but also explain its concepts. There are many citizens who can listen to or read about some concept and without an additional and clear explanation cannot understand or interpret its meaning.
In addition to the platforms of each party, it is necessary that the voters analyze the quality of the candidates, going beyond the programs that they defend. The program could be excellent and, nevertheless, a winning candidate who does not have the necessary civic and moral conditions, could make a mockery out of it and even do the total opposite of what that document says. Even some substantial aspects of the private life of a politician who might get elected to guide a nation, should weigh on the decisions of his countrymen when they cast their vote. Naturally, the characteristics of the public life of the candidate must be properly analyzed before placing one’s trust on someone who might win the election.
Electoral campaigns should be an important period in the life of every voter and, of course of every party. Political campaigns and platforms, and the characteristics of the individual candidates should be considered by the voters as something very serious and significant.
